The Roadways and Transportation Department works in tight synergy with the Environment and Land, Infrastructures and Hydraulics Departments, providing a completely coordinated and integrated service among the various aspects of expertise involved, a significant know-how in mobility projects with an environmental strong impact.
Furthermore, the Department has particular competence in yard management works for both urban and high environmental sensitivity territories. It has proudly earned the appreciation of some of the most important Italian builders specialised in this sector also thanks to its ability in the construction design phase.
The activities cover many areas of specialization:
– roads, with the complete design thereof, from the definition of the route to the detailed design of special works; in this field the crossing axis of the former Cogne steel plant in Aosta (including a viaduct over steelmill slags), the modernization of “del Sestriere” National Road 23 ultimated for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympic Games, the Cesena by-pass (including Italy’s first “ecotunnel”, the second in Europe) are worth mentioning;
– logistics, with the planning and designing of some of the biggest logistics platforms in Italy (intermodal freight terminals of Turin, Novara and Livorno);
– transports, with the design of light underground lines, tramways, railway stretches, gondola lifts and cablecars; in this field the railway line for urban service Palermo-Isola delle Femmine, the Turin railway underground link, the extension of the tram line 4 to Turin North, the Milan-Verona highspeed railway line deserve special mention.
