As part of the IASS 2026 – IWSS 2026 International Symposium, which recently concluded in Turin, architect Carlo Micono and engineer Fabio Bazzucchi from Ai took part in the session “Recent Advances in the Mechanics and Design of Thin-Shell Structures Subjected to Seismic and Wind Loads”, contributing to the international debate on innovation and sustainability in structural design.
During the session, two papers were presented: the Keynote Lecture “When the envelope drives the structure: integrated design of the steel-ETFE spatial roof of the Lamezia Terme Sports Hall“, dedicated to the Lamezia Terme Sports Hall -characterized by an ETFE envelope and the result of an integrated multidisciplinary design process between building envelope and structure – and the presentation “Steel frames for adaptive reuse: portal frames and single-span roof trusses in the structural renovation of the historic De Sonnaz barracks, Turin“, focusing on the structural redevelopment of the former De Sonnaz barracks in Turin, now the headquarters of Reply.
These two presentations shared two of Ai’s standout projects with the international scientific and professional community, showcasing how research, technological innovation, and a focus on adaptive reuse combine with advanced structural solutions. The papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
